This area which is near the
Perak river mouth has a long history, for it is here the first
Sultan of Perak, Sultan Muzaffar Shah's boat was stranded.
Legend has it that only after casting away his crown into the Perak
River that his boat was freed from the sand bank.
To this
date, on the coronation of each new Sultan of Perak, a visit by the
Sultan to this area is a must.
Despite being relatively small and undeveloped, Beting Beras Basah
is both historically and culturally important in the lives of the
Perak people.
Following tradition, it is here at the river mouth
where the coronation ceremonies for the installation of all Perak
sultans enter their final stage, whereby the new ruler dips his foot
into the river in a symbolic ritual to ratify the coronation.
