About Malaysia
Malaysia is located in the heart of Southeast Asia, with a
total land area of 330,200 km2. Malaysia is
divided into two main regions : Peninsular Malaysia, which
lies just south of Thailand, and East Malaysia,
which can be found north of Indonesia on the island of
Borneo. Malaysia has a multi-cultural and multi-racial
population of 18 million people, consisting of Malays,
Chinese, Indians and numerous indigenous peoples. It is
a land of many natural beauties, from white sand beaches to
rolling hills.
Getting There
Major airlines fly to Ipoh’s Sultan Azlan Shah Airport. The
hotel is just 15 minutes by car from the airport.
Entry
All visitors to Malaysia must have a valid passport. They must
be endorsed for travelling to Malaysia and have a validity of
at least six months beyond the time of stay allowed in
Malaysia. Visa is not required for citizens of British
Commonwealth countries (except India), British Protected
persons and citizens of the Republic of Ireland,
Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, San Marino, Switzerland and
the United States (for social, business or academic).
Customs Regulations
Items such as cameras, watches, pens, portable radio-cassette
players, perfume, cosmetics and lighters are
duty-free in Malaysia. Visitors bringing in dutiable goods may
have to pay a deposit for temporary importation, refundable on
departure - usually 50% of the value (remember to keep your
receipt of purchase and obtain an official receipt for any tax
or deposit paid).
Language
Malay is the official language. English is widely spoken
especially in business. Tamil, Mandarin and other Chinese
dialects like Cantonese, Hakka are also spoken.
Climate
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with plenty of sunshine
throughout the year.
Time
Malaysia is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time and 16
hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, 7 hours ahead of GMT.
