A Precious Gift From The Past
The Central Perak District is the heartland of Malay culture in
Perak. Besides its history, it is deep rooted in culture
seldom found elsewhere.
The Rebana Perak which is a hand-held
drum and traditional dances such as tarian dabus, tarian bubu and
lotah are a few of the cultural items that visitors will find in
this area.

The Art of Drum
Making
As testimony to the rich cultural
and musical past of the Perak Tengah region, the making of Rebana, or
Malay drum, is still in existence, with some modernisation but basically
utilising the methods passed down over the generations.
An entire cottage
industry revolves around the making of these drums, located at Kampung
Teluk about 1 km. away from Kampung Gajah.
In peace as it was in battle, in humble villages as they were in the
sultan's palaces, these drums held an important and respected place in the
traditional culture of the Malay people of Perak.
